FAA Selects Universities for Center for Excellence

The FAA has selected a handful of universities to lead an Air Transportation Center for Excellence, focused on general aviation issues such as safety and airport technology.

Purdue University, Ohio State University, and the Georgia Institute of Technology will lead the effort, along with assistance from the Florida Institute of Technology, Iowa State, and Texas A&M.

The FAA will invest at least $500,000 a year during the first five years of a decade agreement. This will continue a similar decade cost-sharing program with industry and academia that originated in 2001.
