Small businesses are the lifeblood of the helicopter industry. While large manufacturing companies build most aircraft, there are literally hundreds of small businesses that specialize in one particular area. These small businesses establish themselves in providing parts, components or services, maintaining enough flexibility to provide unique customer services.
Anodyne Electronics Manufacturing Corp (AEM) is an Associate Member of Helicopter Association International (HAI) that produces a range of avionics and related products in their facility in British Columbia's Okanagan Valley. With around 90 employees, versatility is a key component of the company.
"Our greatest strength is our ability to adapt to our customer's needs," says Tony Weller, director of sales and marketing at AEM. "It allows us to deliver the highest levels of workmanship and service."
The company produces a range of specialized avionics for helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, such as master-caution panels for Bell 212s, Sikorsky S-61/Sea King, and Airbus BKK117 helicopters. "Our roots are in the helicopter industry," adds Weller. "We know from experience that our customers value smart, simple designs that perform well in challenging environments."
AEM also offers public address speaker/siren systems in varying power and strength capabilities. "We are an approved supplier of avionics components to several helicopter OEMs, such as Bell, Leonardo, Airbus Helicopters, and Sikorsky," says Weller. "We also provide contract electronics manufacturing to Cobham Aerospace, Skytrac, Rogerson Kratos, and others."
The company started in 2009 when Northern Airborne Technology (NAT) stopped their operations in Canada. "Our founders wanted to continue to serve the aviation with capable products and systems that would meet or exceed exacting environmental and performance standards," adds Weller. "Today, we focus on the niche market that was a foundation for NAT, and we support that market with exceptional customer service. We do not try to be all things for all customers."
AEM has been a member of HAI since 2010, joining because they wanted to provide value to the industry through the delivery of needed products services and support. "We really enjoy the complexity, camaraderie, and grit of this industry," finishes Weller. "It has its global language, and it's like being part of a very large, extended family."
The company has exhibited at HAI HELI-EXPO since 2011. "Given our historical and current relationship with the helicopter market, we believe it is THE show to attend!"
