HAI International Tuesday: Gulf Helicopters - Qatar

Paul Smith To Our Members

Gulf Helicopters Company (GHC) is a leading commercial aviation services provider in Qatar. The company’s global footprint extends from Europe and Africa to the Middle East, South Asia, and the Far East.

Founded in 1970 with the primary objective of catering to the needs of Qatar’s oil and gas industry, GHC has grown over the years by leaps and bounds to successfully become a leading global aviation services provider. The company’s engineering capabilities and multi-type fleet offer cost-efficient solutions to address the challenging demands of its clients, with a focus on performance and safety.

GHC was originally founded as a domestic aviation service provider in 1970 by recognizing the prospective opportunities for helicopter services within the Gulf States. GHC began operations in full swing in 1973 with its first operational base in Doha, State of Qatar. The state-owned Qatar General Petroleum Corporation (QP) fully acquired GHC in 1998 as a subsidiary.

Starting with a single helicopter, GHC now operates more than 50 helicopters. Its comprehensive fleet gives the company the flexibility to cater to the needs of its clients, whether they are onshore or offshore. The company’s fleet of helicopters has been configured to the highest standards for performing tasks, including: offshore and onshore support, emergency medical services, VIP transportation, aerial photography, external load, seismic support, and aerial tours.

In 2008, GHC was brought under the umbrella of Gulf International Services (GIS), which is a public limited enterprise listed on the Doha Securities Market (DSM). This helped the company to grow from being a small regional player to an internationally reputable operator, serving most of the major oil and gas companies in the world. GHC continues to work with the oil and gas Industry to raise the standards of commercial rotary aviation services in respect to safety and service excellence.

GHC is a member of Helicopter Association International (HAI) and has been a recipient of the popular Operator Safety Award in 2013-2015 for accident free flying. In 1998, several GHC engineering staff members were also awarded with the Technical Safety Awards.
