A look at an HAI member up close and personal.

Based in Rancagua, Chile, AOG Aviación is a family-run company with more than 30 years of experience in the civil helicopter market in Chile and South America. Outside of Chile, AOG provides services in Argentina (where it operates a second base), Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Portugal, and Spain.

The company’s central operation is based at its own airfield, Helicenter Los Lirios, the only such facility in Chile exclusively for helicopters. There, the company serves as a helicopter and fixed-base operator as well as a maintenance facility. AOG also provides parking, hangar space, fuel, and maintenance services for private and commercial users.

Fleet and Missions
During the firefighting season in Chile, AOG operates a fleet of helicopters it owns or leases, ranging from medium-sized Bell aircraft to the Boeing CH-47D. Currently, AOG conducts firefighting missions in the Bell 205, 212, and 412.

AOG’s aircraft are also instrumental in helping perform frost control, fruit and vine drying, VIP passenger transport, tours, cargo transport, and utility and other construction projects.

One of AOG’s most recent and gratifying jobs was done in Patagonia in the very southern region of Chile. There, the company’s AS350 BA helicopter assisted in the repair of remote meteorological stations that measure the melting and reduction of glaciers in ice fields. As a result of climate change, Chile’s glaciers are constantly shrinking, increasing the importance of continuous monitoring and study.

In addition to operating helicopters on location, AOG runs its own support-logistics service. The company owns six fuel trucks that carry 5,000 to 10,000 L of fuel and mobile workshops with everything needed to perform maintenance in the field.

Pilot School and Flying Club
AOG operates the only helicopter pilot school and flying club in Chile, doing business as GoFly. The school focuses on private and commercial pilot training in two Guimbal Cabri G2 helicopters. These aircraft are also available to club members for hourly rental and are marketed as a way to fly without incurring the overhead of aircraft ownership. For students seeking advanced training, AOG provides instruction in the Airbus EC120 and AS350 BA.

AOG is the only operator of the Guimbal Cabri G2 in Chile. As such, it serves as the Chilean representative and sales agent for the manufacturer and as the only authorized maintenance facility for the aircraft in the country.
