U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee ranking member Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and panel colleague Mary Landrieu (D-La.) on July 10 introduced the Fixing America's Inequities with Revenues Act, which would return to coastal states as much as 37.5 percent of the revenue generated by offshore energy installations.
Inland states already receive royalties equal to half of the revenues generated by energy production on federal lands within their borders. States could receive 27.5 of the revenues from coastal energy generation and would be eligible for an additional 10 percent in return for promoting conservation or renewable energy initiatives.
