A weekly update illustrating some of the ways that Helicopter Association International (HAI) is "Keeping the Rotors Turning" for our members.
Vice President, Government Affairs — Cade Clark
On May 9, Representatives Sam Graves (R-MO-06), Daniel Lipinski (D-IL-03), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK-02), and Brenda Lawrence (D-MI-14) introduced HR 5701, an Aviation Workforce Development Pilot Program Bill to encourage more men and women to pursue careers in aviation.
This bill is a companion bill to Senator Inhofe’s bill in the Senate. HAI, along with a coalition of other associations, is advocating for this bill in the House while continuing to push for Senator Inhofe’s bill as an amendment to the Senate FAA reauthorization bill.
The Senate is taking up its version of the FAA reauthorization bill and Senate leaders have publicly expressed their hope that the Senate can wrap up its work on the bill by July 4. Once the Senate votes on the bill, the House and Senate will need to convene a conference to work out the differences between the two versions.
Director, Regulations and International Affairs — Matt Callan
Last week, Matt participated in the fifth working group meeting of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Flight Operations (FLTOPS) Panel at ICAO headquarters in Montreal. The FLTOPS Panel addressed many Job Cards generated by ICAO’s Air Navigation Commission. Helicopter-specific issues included: carrying of dangerous goods, single-engine performance, harmonization of general aviation, and required navigation performance authorization operations.
