Education is a fundamental requirement to become a helicopter pilot or maintenance technician. But the learning doesn’t stop when you get your license, and that is why HAI provides education for professionals in the helicopter industry.
Center of Rotorcraft Education (CORE)
A new HAI education program is the Center of Rotorcraft Education (CORE), which offers both free and fee-based online education. Our course for safety managers is already available, and we are in the process of bringing online more courses and other resources for pilots, maintenance technicians, safety personnel, managers, and other staff. Available anytime, anywhere, CORE makes professional development affordable and accessible.
Education at HAI HELI-EXPO
Every year, at HAI HELI-EXPO®, our annual conference, we offer both free and fee-based education for helicopter professionals. Designed specifically for the helicopter industry, our courses and sessions offer you the opportunity to learn from some of the best instructors in the industry.
The schedule for each year’s education program at HAI HELI-EXPO will be posted in late September. Visit the Education Page on the HAI HELI-EXPO website often to stay informed about all of the opportunities offered, including:
- Professional Education courses (PEC) (fee-based)
- Rotor Safety Challenge (RSC) sessions (free for Expo attendees and exhibitors)
- Manufacturer Technical Briefings (free for Expo attendees and exhibitors)
- Inspection authorization (IA) renewal opportunities (some fee-based and some free)
- Helicopter-specific flight instructor refresher course (FIRC) (fee-based)
- Credit under the FAA WINGS (pilots) or Aviation Maintenance Technician (mechanics) programs.
The Rotor Safety Challenge, produced through Helicopter Foundation International, provides hour-long sessions at HAI HELI-EXPO on a variety of safety-related subjects. These free sessions are held during the show, and no advance registration is required, making them easy to fit into your busy show schedule. Attendees who catch six sessions can earn a certificate of completion. The schedule and session descriptions for the next HAI HELI-EXPO are posted in late September.
If you have a safety-related tool, technique, or insight that you would like to share with your colleagues in the helicopter industry, then consider submitting a proposal to present a Rotor Safety Challenge session at HAI HELI-EXPO 2019. RSC sessions are 60 minutes in length and free to attendees. All proposals for RSC sessions are due June 1, 2018.
HAI Professional Education courses (PEC) are held on days either immediately before or after HAI HELI-EXPO and range from a half-day to several days in length. These courses require a separate registration fee, in addition to any HAI HELI-EXPO registration fee. (Please note: registering for a PEC does NOT admit you to HAI HELI-EXPO.)
PECs are offered in a variety of tracks, including pilot skill; maintenance, safety, or operations management; career development; and IA renewal. Each course focuses on current industry information and best practices, providing you with the skills needed to grow your career. Registration for PEC courses at HAI HELI-EXPO 2019 in Atlanta opens September 19.
HAI is accepting proposals for PEC courses at HAI HELI-EXPO 2019. PEC courses are fee based, and the courses range in length from four hours to several days. If you have a course to offer, consider becoming a PEC instructor. All proposals for Professional Education courses are due May 25, 2018.
