The European Aviation Safety Agency has awarded DART Aerospace a supplemental type certificate for its Left Hand Pilot in Command. The STC has been approved for Bell 205 and 212 aircraft.

Engineers have been called out to a North Sea oil platform after a helicopter was forced to return during a crew change. The Sikorsky S92 was heading to Scatsta Airport on Shetland from Brent Delta when the crew reported "airframe vibration."

Sikorsky Model S-92A Clamps

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for Sikorsky Model S-92A helicopters. This AD requires, initially and each time the clamps are removed, inspecting for chafing between the electrical wires and the hydraulic lines and, if there is chafing between the wires or lines, before further flight, replacing the unairworthy wires or lines with airworthy wires or lines. Also, this AD requires inspecting each clamp for correct installation, and if a clamp is incorrectly installed or missing, before further flight, correctly installing the clamps.

Bighorn Sheep Helicopter Ride

Bighorn sheep are skilled mountain climbers. But one group recently made it over the peaks of the Sierra Nevada crest in record time. As part of an ongoing effort to return endangered Sierra Nevada bighorns to more of their historic range, state and federal wildlife workers captured 14 of the animals in the Inyo National Forest and transported them by helicopter to the Big Arroyo area of Sequoia National Park on the range's west side.

The prospects for the rotorcraft industry in China are auspicious as is evidenced by the 20-percent growth of the fleet in the country last year, as well as increasing interest from local companies in producing their own aircraft. Last year the entire fleet (465 helicopters, 424 based in Mainland China) grew by 20 percent.
